Central standard time is an independent music artist whose eclectic taste has led him to a music style that both he and his fans love. Today, the Wisconsin artist combines the genres of indie folk rock, singer-songwriter, indie pop and even elements of emo to his music, however this wasn’t always the case.

“I’ve been playing around with instruments for as long as I can remember,” he says, “but it’s been a little over 3 years since I first put pen to paper and wrote actual songs I could do anything with.”

The winning Song of the Month track for May, “I thought I’d never miss you”, is out on all popular streaming platforms now.

Although central standard time has shuffled through styles over the years, his winning song, “I thought I’d never miss you” is the first release under his new alias.

Taking inspiration from poetry and varying music artists such as Kevin Devine, Andy Hull and Tyler Mabry, the indie guitar track was written as part of a concept album that central standard time hopes to release before the end of 2024. As the second track on the album, “I thought I’d never miss you” acts as an exposition of the project as a whole.

“I came into this song thinking ‘How can I convey this message of being left behind by the people you love?’”, he says. “The first thing I had written down were the lines ‘I thought I’d never miss you’, ‘I thought I’d never lose you’, and ‘things you used to tell me.’ I really leaned into a sense of bewilderment at the fact that you miss a person or a life that you thought you’d be happy to leave behind.”

The album itself came together on paper last December in less than two weeks. After going through what he calls his “obsessive phase,” central standard time expanded on his idea. For a better understanding of his process, he walked Space Hound Records through his creation.

“I open up FL Studio and start messing around with the guitar parts I’ve written, refining them over a few takes. The other instruments fall into place as I build this framework for the whole song,” central standard time says. “The last step for me is always recording vocals. I get really nitpicky with the takes I let escape into the real song. After I’ve listened back to it a million times and begun to hate it, I decide to let it out into the world!”

With the combination of impressive riffs, a catchy refrain and one of his favorite verses, central standard time is excited to share how “I thought I’d never miss you” fits into the overall narrative of his upcoming project.
