No fancy studio, no expensive gear—just a headset mic and raw creativity. That’s how this emerging hip-hop, indie artist from Michigan made October’s winning Song of the month, “Not Alone.”

Despite only starting his music journey in late 2023, H3VEN’s introspective lyricism and ambient sound has resonated with listeners worldwide, and his track, “Not Alone,” is no exception.

You can listen to “Not Alone” now on SoundCloud.

Although the track has an upbeat feel, H3VEN reveals a deeper message beneath the surface.

“The song is about questioning everything—society, authority, and even yourself,” he explains. “It’s a reflection of fear and control.”

Aside from its catchy melody, H3VEN feels that the genuine expression of “Not Alone” is what his listeners resonate with the most.

“It doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths,” he says, “and that vulnerability connects with people on a deeper level.”

When it comes to the process for creating his tracks, H3VEN’s approach is both spontaneous and intuitive.

“I never usually write any of my music,” he admits. “It’s all made up on the spot.”

To do this, H3VEN hums along to the instrumental, feeling out the rhythm until he locks into a flow. Once it clicks, he starts adding lyrics, allowing the song to take shape.

With just the essentials, H3VEN creates music that is honest, impactful and irresistibly appealing. His work is proof that true talent and originality can always find its way to the top.

Hailing from Lake Placid, Florida, Velvet Horizon is an alternative/indie folk artist who has combined his atmospheric sound with Irish rapper and producer, Immute, to create the voted Song of the Month of September, “TRIALS.”

Through a fellow artist by the name Moonlight $ky, someone Velvet Horizon had known since childhood, Velvet Horizon and Immute initially connected over a call and instantly hit it off.

Despite living in different countries, the two artists managed to create a sound that has captured the attention of listeners worldwide. With cinematic energy, dark pop vibes and a touch of nerdcore, “TRIALS” became a must-listen for fans of immersive storytelling and high-intensity music.

When asked about the inspiration behind the winning track, Velvet Horizon shared, “The love for horror, but most of all, the passionate love for ‘The Outlast Trials’ and the ‘Outlast’ series in general.”

Although the track was originally conceived as a tribute to the game developers of “Outlast”, “TRIALS” evolved into a cinematic and layered track touching on broader themes of mental health.

“The lyrics to me show how fast somebody can decline from being mentally stable to a drastic change of being clinically insane or unstable,” explains Immute. “There are many ways of losing the mind, and I think that it is a very popular occurrence for such a thing to happen in today’s standards, which is why I think the lyrics would suit the feeling, especially for these times.”

With its dark pop and nerdcore elements, “TRIALS” has drawn comparisons to Imagine Dragons, a parallel that Immute acknowledges.

“It sounds like an Imagine Dragons-themed song, but with a twist, since it dives into nerdcore, mental health and abstract sounding cadences that complement the instrumental.”

September’s Song of the Month, “TRIALS” marks Velvet Horizon’s first win and Immute’s third.

The creative process behind “TRIALS” was both meticulous and chaotic. Velvet Horizon focused on lyrics, vocals and crafting a cinematic feel, while Immute contributed to the lyrics, engineering and additional production elements.

“We avoided doing a lot of digital editing or copy and pasting and spent hours recording multiple upon multiple takes in different voices or different distances to make the crowd effects we had more natural,” Velvet Horizon says.

Creating the track did not come without its hurdles.

“I almost lost the FLP once,” admitted Immute. “I never told Velvet this, because he’s known to lose projects too and he would be like, ‘See!’”

Despite the challenges, both artists agreed that the most rewarding part was hearing the final product and seeing fans’ reactions.

“Showing people who don’t think I can sing this song in particular is such a great feeling when they eat their own expectations,” Velvet Horizon shares.

Meanwhile, Immute found satisfaction in pushing his artistic boundaries beyond rap.

“I’ve never seen myself as a singer, but getting to make something like ‘TRIALS’ is a huge deal to me because I hit some of the notes correctly,” he says.

The response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly from horror and gaming communities.

“A lot of ‘Outlast’ fans really enjoyed it from the feedback that I’ve gotten,” Immute says.

While “TRIALS” continues to be a successful collaboration between Immute and Velvet Horizon, it wasn’t their first. In fact, their very first collaboration titled, “Lovers to Fighters” was a joke diss track challenge from friends which led to a project titled, “It IZ What It IZ.”

Although Immute and Velvet Horizon could not continue as an official duo, when given the chance, they still enjoy creating tracks such as “TRIALS” together. Looking ahead, both artists are open to future collaborations.

“There will be a rise of ‘It IZ What It IZ’ again, I hope,” Velvet Horizon teases.

“Most Definitely!” Immute echoes.

Those interested in listening to “TRIALS” can listen on all major streaming platforms now.

Congratulations to Velvet Horizon and Immute for their Song of the Month win, and to all the Song of the Stream winners for the month of September!

Following his Song of the Month win of April 2024, Irish music artist and producer, Immute, is back at it again. This time, he has impressed listeners with his House/EDM track titled, “ABSOLUTE!”

“It’s a club song,” says Immute, “And I think that the ‘drink, drink, drink, drink’ part could be a good trend starter.”

“ABSOLUTE!” is out now!

Although the track is described as a drinking song inspired by Stormae’s “Alor on Danse,” Immute believes it can be understood as even more.

“Everybody deserves a night away from hard work,” says Immute, “Whether it’s drinking and partying, or doing something else they like.”

His creative process for creating the track is the perfect example. With three bottles of Captain Morgan and a few shots of Absolut Vodka, Immute gained the energy to start writing, stacking his vocals and rapping to (without slurring) his track. He may have had to hold in his sickness in the process, but the end result was a song that he says is one he can for once listen to on repeat from his own catalogue.

Those interested in “ABSOLUTE!” can listen on their favorite platforms by visiting the link here.

Congratulations to Immute for winning Song of the Month and to all the Song of the Month nominees and winners of the Song of the Stream for the month of August!

NED5 is a dynamic band whose versatility with pop-rock and indie-rock, alongside a punk edge, has resonated with fans far and wide. Comprised of Carol (main vocals), Matos (main guitar), Vidu (keyboard/second guitar), Silva (bass), and Eugénio (drums/second vocals), NED5 has quickly made a name for themselves with their emotive and relatable music.

You can stream “I Would Lie” on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.

From Portugal, the band initially formed during the pandemic as a school project involving Silva, Vidu and Eugénio. Their chemistry was undeniable, prompting them to continue playing together outside of school, rehearsing at Eugénio’s house. Matos soon joined the group, and after their first concert, Carol was brought on as the lead singer, allowing Eugénio to focus on the drums.

NED5’s winning single, “I Would Lie,” perfectly encapsulates their unique sound. Inspired by Carol’s personal experiences, the song delves into the emotional turmoil of unreciprocated love.

“This song is special because it truly shows what I felt during a not-so-good phase of my life,” Carol explains. “It’s a sort of realization that I could have done things differently, but it was already too late.”

The song narrates the desperation of a girl waiting for her beloved’s effort in their relationship. In a bid to get his attention, she decides it’s better to lie and hide her true feelings.

“I sat down, grabbed my keyboard, and just started letting it all out,” says Carol. “All the feelings I had stuck inside me turned into a song.” With its raw emotion and sad lyrics, it soon became the relatable song it is today.

“I Would Lie” is one of NED5’s two main singles, the other being “Dancing Dress,” which showcases their punk side. Both tracks are set to be featured on their upcoming EP, along with three new songs that will further explore their signature mix of genres.

NED5 continues to captivate audiences with their heartfelt music, and with their upcoming EP, they aim to connect even more deeply with their fans. On top of their upcoming EP, NED5 has also been focusing on live performances and opportunities. To stay up to date on NED5, follow their Instagram and stream their winning song “I Would Lie” on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Born in Taiwan and adopted at the age of eight, STORMIE is a Kentucky pop singer and songwriter whose hopeful and relatable lyrics along with her dreamy melodies and vocals have captivated a wide range of audiences.

First taking inspiration from artists such as Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, STORMIE began writing music during the COVID-19 pandemic. While she regularly fiddled with melodies along with her Walmart ukulele, it wasn’t until she got her first guitar that her first official song titled, “Happy One”, was born.

“During Covid was my hardest year,” says Stormie, “so songwriting became my diary and therapy.”

The winning Song of the Month track for June, “Good Enough”, will be officially released on STORMIE’s album, “Sweet and Sour”, at the end of this year.

Despite only having her phone, Apple earbuds and BandLab, STORMIE continued to create songs and refine her sound. After rebranding from her original artist name, Stormz.Melody, STORMIE’s goal was to continue bettering her music. “New mic, new laptop and new mindset,” she says.

Fast forward to 2024, and STORMIE’s song titled, “Good Enough” was voted as Space Hound Records’ June Song of the Month. Although the track now features music artists IMMUTE and SILENT, it was originally written by STORMIE and her close friend, Miley Dixon during their freshman year of high school.

“We were talking about liking the guys who don’t like us back and just wondering what would make us ‘good enough’,” says STORMIE. “The song makes me realize that no matter what we do we will never be good enough, so why not just be yourself and that itself would be good enough?”

First, “Good Enough” was more of a joke between the two artists, however as they continued to add elements, they realized it would make a great song.

“So, we called that night and she had written lyrics on her end and I sent her my lyrics from my end,” says STORMIE, “and it became one we worked on for months.”

“Good Enough” will be officially released on STORMIE’s upcoming album titled, “Sweet and Sour.” The album, which consists half of love songs and half of breakup songs will be available on all streaming platforms at the end of this year. With the release, STORMIE looks to continue bringing her personal experiences to her sound.

“Not only do I hope to connect to my listeners with my music, but I also hope to make music to heal,” says STORMIE.

Congratulations to STORMIE for winning Song of the Month and congratulations to all the Song of the Month nominees and winners of the Song of the Stream this June!

Central standard time is an independent music artist whose eclectic taste has led him to a music style that both he and his fans love. Today, the Wisconsin artist combines the genres of indie folk rock, singer-songwriter, indie pop and even elements of emo to his music, however this wasn’t always the case.

“I’ve been playing around with instruments for as long as I can remember,” he says, “but it’s been a little over 3 years since I first put pen to paper and wrote actual songs I could do anything with.”

The winning Song of the Month track for May, “I thought I’d never miss you”, is out on all popular streaming platforms now.

Although central standard time has shuffled through styles over the years, his winning song, “I thought I’d never miss you” is the first release under his new alias.

Taking inspiration from poetry and varying music artists such as Kevin Devine, Andy Hull and Tyler Mabry, the indie guitar track was written as part of a concept album that central standard time hopes to release before the end of 2024. As the second track on the album, “I thought I’d never miss you” acts as an exposition of the project as a whole.

“I came into this song thinking ‘How can I convey this message of being left behind by the people you love?’”, he says. “The first thing I had written down were the lines ‘I thought I’d never miss you’, ‘I thought I’d never lose you’, and ‘things you used to tell me.’ I really leaned into a sense of bewilderment at the fact that you miss a person or a life that you thought you’d be happy to leave behind.”

The album itself came together on paper last December in less than two weeks. After going through what he calls his “obsessive phase,” central standard time expanded on his idea. For a better understanding of his process, he walked Space Hound Records through his creation.

“I open up FL Studio and start messing around with the guitar parts I’ve written, refining them over a few takes. The other instruments fall into place as I build this framework for the whole song,” central standard time says. “The last step for me is always recording vocals. I get really nitpicky with the takes I let escape into the real song. After I’ve listened back to it a million times and begun to hate it, I decide to let it out into the world!”

With the combination of impressive riffs, a catchy refrain and one of his favorite verses, central standard time is excited to share how “I thought I’d never miss you” fits into the overall narrative of his upcoming project.

“I thought I’d never miss you” is available on all major streaming platforms. To listen on your favorite, you can tap or click here.

It isn’t just an album that central standard time has on the way. In fact, on July 21 he will be releasing another song with the pre-save link available in the near future. To stay up to date on central standard time and his upcoming releases, be sure to follow him on instagram at cst.band.

To enter, send a video recording of your MIDI art on the events channel of the Space Hound Records Discord server before the end of June 22nd.

We’ll be viewing all of the submissions LIVE on YouTube on June 23 at 7 p.m. EST.

Shout out to Hermian and Mike from the Space Hound Records team for the event idea and for the beautiful demonstration!

If you’re not yet part of the Space Hound Records Discord community, you can accept your invitation here:
